Chiang Mai is a land of warm hospitality. A land of mist-shrouded mountains and fertile valleys. A Buddhist land with over 1,100 Buddhist temples. Chieng Mai has over 700 years of history and rooted its culture with its own dialect, own architecture, dances and cuisine. For decades, Chiang Mai retains its natural charm and old culture. Chiang Mai is home to many hill-tribes : the Hmong, Karen, Shan (Tai Yai), Akha, Lisu, Lahu and Mien, many of whom have migrated into the region from the interior Asian. They brought customs and colorful costumes in to Thailand. Although unsophisticated and poor, they manage to maintain these minority cultures. The Tribal Museum in Mae Rim displays this fascinating aspect of Chieng Mai. |
