This is one of the tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur.

Aquaria KLCC is an oceanarium located beneath Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre within KLCC - Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Malaysia.
Within walking distance from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Aquaria KLCC sprawling multi-level space in the Concourse Level of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Some of the highlights of the aquarium includes
1- a 90 metre long underwater tunnel,
2- the 10 foot long gigantic Arapamia,
3- touch pool encounter,
4- the death-defying shark feedings at the Aqua Theatre.
 


How to get there: Just within walking distance from Suria KLCC mall. You have walk through a bright and posterfull basement (Suria KLCC connecting tunnel) to this Aquaria.

Aquaria at KLCC - Kuala Lumpur's first aquarium with over 5,000 marine creatures.

Aquaria KLCC has an amazing display of fish, from sand tiger sharks to blue rays and giant arapaimas to gar fish.
Some of the highlights of the aquarium includes a 90 meter long underwater tunnel, the 10 foot long gigantic Arapamia, and an Aqua Theatre.

There are also reptiles such as snakes and lizards on display along with a wide variety of insects.

At the entrance there is a special section for visitors to pick up and feel the texture of live corals and star fish.
Located inside Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre which is a 10 minutes walk from the Petronas Twin Towers, it is accessible through the underground interlink from Tower Records in Suria KLCC.

To KL Aquaria you will walk through an air-conditioned pedestrian walkway at the Centre Court of Suria KLCC to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. It is delightful walk on this walkway.

There are three shallow pools with swimming creatures where you can touch and catch with your hands. The tunnel underneath the shark-tank (photos below) was impressive. On this travelator, big sharks, sting rays and other rather large fish swooped overhead or just lazily floated past.

Before the main hall is the section called the Jewels of the Jungle with amazing variety of animals found in the tropical region. Green snakes, Malayan Horned toads, tarantulas etc.

The main hall contained three main aquariums and a couple of smaller ones.
The first aquarium is a large 20 over feet tall cylindrical aquarium. Inside were variety of fishes.
Right below is aquarium with similar fishes and houses a few gigantic tortoises bigger then a person. Slow moving and peaceful, the tortoises do not move much and prefer to stay underwater.


Opposite this pool is the fresh water aquarium which contained freshwater fishes. The main attraction is the Giant Arapaimas - the largest fresh water fish in the world.


The main attraction is The Tunnel Undersea Walkway (Underwater Tunnel). This brighter area is where visitor non stop clicking their camera


Photographing : There is no restriction on photography. But lighting is dim and you try your luck shooting through the glass.

A 10 foot long gigantic Arapamia

Arapaima gigas
Largest freshwater fish in the world. Builds a nest on sandy bottoms where it spawns and protects its young.
 

Arapaima, (pirarucu, or paiche) is a South American tropical freshwater fish. It is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, with a maximum length in excess of 3 m (9.8 ft.) and weight up to 200 kg (440 lb.).

Habitat : Tropical; large rivers; freshwater
Diet : Mainly fish; also birds and small mammals
Distribution : South America; Amazon River basin

Aquaria KLCC has two Levels :

In Level One are :
a) Evolution Zone - which consist of a Piranha Tank , Gene Pool and Electric Zone.
b) The Stream - which consist of River Bank Jungle and Asian Small Clawed Otters.
c) Shipwreck - here are Tales of Ocean , Coral Walk and Coral Discovery.


In Level Two are:
a) Deep forest zone had the flooded forest and the Fresh water journey.
b) The Coast had a coastal nursery.
c) The living Ocean was Super fun. Kids enjoyed it the most.

e) Station Aquarius
The best part was going through the glass tunnel watching different species of fish including sharks swimming above the heads.
 


From the tropical waters of the Asian region to the rainforests of the world, Aquaria KLCC takes you on a journey to discover the fascinating nature of aquatic life as well as the unique behaviour of animals and crawly creatures above water.

An educational study charting the course of natural waters flowing from the highlands to the streams and deep sea is devised to help visitors appreciate water as a habitat and ecosystem.

Highlights include a 90-metre tunnel tank with a moving travelator where you can marvel at Sand Tiger sharks, stingrays, marine turtles and other sea creatures swimming around unhindered in the vast oceanarium, a spectacular live show of divers feeding these creatures at meal times and a rare opportunity to come into contact with live starfish and bamboo shark at the Touchpool area.
