The hotel and rooms are very new, clean and spacious.  with basic amenities that suits everyone needs.  Bed sheets are new and comfortable. Room prices include  free wifi and buffet breakfast .

AL Hotel newly opened on Jun 2012. A hotel  new with design are modern stylish look and feel.

When the hotel is still new, so as the new staff are also in fresh new spirit - the "honey spirit".

Highly recommended. Airport shuttle is MYR30 each way for 2pax. The staff are all friendly and they arranged a transfer to the airport in the morning for RM30.

Breakfast - very local food - is included and served as a buffet downstairs. Included buffet breakfast was very good (not super but just fine).

The hotel is quite central - Tawau isn't very big and if you don't feel
like walking then taxis are plentiful and inexpensive.

The location is very easily walked to many eateries, banks and services.

Roof Top Lounge

There is one selling point AL Hotel has - The Rooftop bar. Since the 10th floor is the Roof Top Lounge which is quite popular, the room floors can only be accessed with the room card key. So, security is good.

The top level
is open air, with a nice view of the entire area. The floor below has
outside dining as well as an inside area.

This additional attractive feature of the hotel top storey bar is classy - with seafood, at reasonably priced.

The rooftop bar/restaurant provides great views and comfortable furniture. The location is very easily walked to many eateries, banks and services.

Across from the entrance is the bar that does a good job. It may well be one of the better night spots in this small town.

If you don't like notice, do not choose the 9th floor, as the noisy Roof Top Lounge is on the 10th floor. The rooftop bar has comfortable furniture provides great views of the town. and .

The higher the floor, the pricier the rooms. The hotel price are FIXED by FLOOR. The higher the floor the higher the price.

Prices vary according to the floor (the sea view is highly priced) but I don't think the rooms are any different. What you get is a new hotel bedroom. Relatively cheaply furnished in Ikea-quality stuff but clean and clearly new. Tea/coffee, HDTV, fridge with soft drinks and - incredibly for Malaysia - beer. a flat screen TV with limited channels
(movies and sport - the addition of an English language news channel
would be nice) and a very spacious shower.

The price of the room includes a breakfast that is basic fare that caters to the local taste. But, there is toast, eggs, beans and franks.

AL Hotel is one of the few hotel that has private car park. The other hotels that have private car park are Marco Polo and Promenade.

AL Hotel is popular with their Roof Top Lounge, thus the small car park is often full. So much so that hotel guests who came back late may have to park their cars some where away from the hotel.

Recent years saw a steady increase of  new hotels in Tawau. This is the second hotel bloom in this little town of Tawau.

This first bloom was in the 1970s during  the timber era in Sabah. This recent 2nd bloom started in 2000 during the Oil Palm + Air Asia era.  Air Asia's low cost direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau is credited  for brining in each day a steady flow of young low-cost travelers to this once sleepy town. While the Oil Palm business men prefer the high end hotels like Promenate Hotel, these young backpack travelers look for budget-hotel. This created a new demand on opening of new budget hotels - budget hotels with a look of business class.

Those old batch of hotels of the 1970s, still in business and still in the style of the 1970s -  is simple out of modern favorite. No WiFi,  No breakfast, old toilet system not functioning as it should be, hot shower with hot water no more. Old hotel staff with old spirit.

AL  Hotel is one of the newest hotels in the town that quick to attract the popularity of the young travelers. The hotel provides free wifi, 32" LCD plasma TV in (some of) the room with limited channels which is sufficient if you are only passing through.

Stay in newest hotel in town while the amenities are still new and still functioning. This is an important fact about choosing a hotel in small towns in Malaysia. New hotel means new bed and new clean towels.

Besides the basic what a hotel provides; tooth brush, shaver and complimentary coffee, tea and bottled drinking are provided. There is a small water boiler for you to make your coffee and tea.
