April 26, 2014 ZAMBOANGA CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Apr. 26, 2014) – Philippine police remain silent over reports that a Chinese woman and a Filipina resort worker kidnapped from a post resort in Sabah in Malaysia are being held captive in the southern island of Sulu.

The Kidnappers ensured Gao Huayun and Dayawan were well fed during their two months in captivity on Jolo island in the Phillippnes, and even gave Gao Huayun "special food" from town on her birthday on April 8, 2014.

The gunmen also allowed Gao to call her family in Shanghai and Dayawan had to translate the conversation to the gunmen.

They were held by a group of gunmen led by an Alhabsi Misaya, in the jungles of Indanan on Jolo island. The gunmen called their leader Misaya and sometimes Maas (elder).

"Most of the time we were fed fried chicken the Abu Sayyaf bought from a food store somewhere. Masarap din! (it was quite tasty),"

Dayawan was working at the Singamata Reef Resort near Semporna, where Gao Huayun was staying as a tourist on April 2, 2014, when five gunmen abducted them and spirited them to Jolo island using high-powered speedboats.

While in captivity at the gunmen's mountainous hideout, Dayawan served as Gao's caretaker, attending to her needs. The gunmen did not harm them in any way, but they were constantly guarded by two armed men.

Gao and Dayawan survived almost two months of captivity in the mountainous jungle hideout of Jolo island in the southern Philippines.
The two women were eventually released on May 30, 2014 to Malaysian security officials. Malaysian and Philippines officials have both said no ransom was paid for the women's release.
After rescued, Marcy Dayawan had returned home to her native Midsayap town in North Cotobato in Mindanao island.

Gao (Chinese) and Marcy (Philippine) were abducted from the Singamata Adventures and Reef Resort located less than 10 minutes by boat from Semporna on April 2, 2014
They were held hostage for nearly two months in southern Philippines has left for China.

The 29-year-old Gao Hua Yuan was flown to Kuala Lumpur where she is expected to connect a flight back to her home country.

Gao and Marcy Dawayan, 40, another hostage from the Philippines, were rescued in a joint operation between the Malaysian and Philippine authorities yesterday.

They were saved from the Jolo Islands at about 10.30am before being sent to Sandakan. Gao was flown here late last night before she took the morning flight to Kuala Lumpur.

For nearly two months the two hostages were moved from one location to the other in the Jolo Islands by their captors before they were rescued in the joint operations.
No ransom was paid for their release and attributed the success to the cooperation between the Malaysian and Philippine authorities.
