Shervinton Executive Boutique Hotel
Being an "Executive" hotel, guest can expect basic comfortable and stylish room. The facilities in the room was good. Iron and board, coffee and tea making facilities. plus a safety box, and hairdryer inside each room. TV with selected Astro and local TV channels.
Also being a "Boutique" hotel, guest can expect the room interior design with carpet, suede and leather chairs, and a more modern design.
Shervinton's advantage is it is newer than the rest and has more things to offer; free sauna for hotel guests, room service which most hotels in Tawau do no offer that, it has even a sky bar lounge.
The hotel atmosphere of professional feel is a favorite of business people who are meeting customer and associates in the lobby.
Hotel room space is big enough for traveling small families which is becoming common trance in Malaysia. Small families with a baby or couple of kids usually have less choice in hotel rooms. Get the spacious Deluxe Room with a flat screen TV, a queen bed, iron, electric jug kettle, two complimentary mineral water bottles every day. The electric jug and mineral water are necessary for nursing mothers.
Newly wed couples on honeymoon are interested in Executive Deluxe Suite because fascination of that "window between the bathroom and bedroom that could not be closed".
Shervinton is new. All hotels along and off Jalan Bunga Raya are new. Even that whole area is call New Town Center because it was newly developed in 1980s as a commercial area extension to the aging and inadequate Old Town Center of World War II.
Definitely, a New Town Area must have new hotels with new facilities and new spirit of hostility. You, as valuable visitors to our town, should demand this so.
The small fitness area is on the top floor along with the restaurant and renovated recently.
Shervinton buffet breakfast is extensive then others offer by hotels of same price range.
As majority visitors to Tawau are Malaysian and Asian, Shervinton's Breakfast food tense to catered to the basic local need. Asian breakfast has noodles, rice, porridge + condiments, fluffy buns, croissants, choices of juice, coffee, tea, chicken, hash browns, cakes, bread, toaster, prawn dumplings and sometimes a friendly chef prepare eggs for you.
Same old problem to all car owners who choose to sleep in a Shop-House Building Hotel. Car owners to park their car by the public road side.
A car parking space just beside the hotel is a premier location hard to reserved. So one need to find one few shop blocks away. That is too far for many owner. Those guest who just own a brand new car may not be able to sound asleep the whole night through. Worse for a Paranoid who might get out of bed a couple of times in the middle of the night just to go to the road side to feel sure the car is still parking there.
Lot of eateries around. Open air Sea food restaurant is 10 minutes walk toward the seaside direction.
Happy hour drinks at the sky Bar and watch the sun set.
Several websites including the hotel's own site what you find is about the same price.
Book via the phone reservations line to see if you have the luck on a cheaper school holiday rate.
Many visitors checking in with an Agoda.com vouchers.
Located in the same block and same street with several other hotels. Next to a taxi stand, supermarket, coffee shops and OTHER hotels. The hotel is in a shop block shearing Jalan Bunga Raya with five other hotels. But Shervinton newer then the others except The Prince Hotel at opposite left. Another is yet newer, the T-Hotel, but it more a budget inn then a proper hotel.
An unsatisfied guest can easily walk to the next door which are The Istana Monaco Hotel and Monaco Hotel. Or across the street to The Heritage Hotel and The Prince Hotel. Still unsatisfied, further down end of the street is The King Park Hotel or to the other of the street (opposite Mellimewa Superstore) for the area's cheapest Inn the T-Hotel. This is the newest hotel in town so far opened only in June 2013.
That lot of old shop opposite Shervinton and beside The Prince is too run down an outlook to ruin the reputation of that prestige golden triangle area. Some groups eyeing to acquire that lot to turn it into yet another more "Executive" more "Boutique" more Taller hotel. What a good business plan.
Wifi is free and signal is strong only in the open area such as lobby.
If you do not bring you own Notebook, there are two internet-able computers at lobby free of charge.
Tawau has zero tourist interest. Do not be mislead by their tourist promoters who pretend Tawau as a city and a tourist heaven.
Most of the hotels staff though friendly and helpful, have no experiences with Western tourists yet. Counter staff not even experiences to handle the Chinese tourist even thought Malaysia is multi racial with a big Chinese population.
An exception is Heritage Hotel because they have a tour section specialized in diving services for mainly Westerners. Other hotels cater to local business men and the low-cost "we can fly" Malaysians families
THEN WHERE TO GO AROUND IN TAWAU?
Nature lovers fascinated by our Tawau hills Park.
Hotel shuttle van to and return airport is available. Airport transfers service – RM40 per person, one way, reservation required.
Or a taxi is about the same cost. The taxi stand is beside the hotel where you see the white uniform taxi drivers sitting in between two roads under the trees. (You can see them in above photo.)
Taxi drivers are reliable in Tawau with no tourist ever complain so far, especially with those taxi drivers familiar by the hotels.
The hotel has rooms excellent for SOHO events.
