Albizia saman (Rain Tree) is a fast-growing tree that has been introduced to many tropical countries throughout the world from its native habitats in Central America and northern South America.

Albizia saman (Rain Tree) was introduced by the British to Sabah and Sarawak before WWII as a shade tree and ornamental,

By now these rain trees are age between 50 to 100 years. Some being cut down unfortunately, but most remain growing into beautiful big trees in town and cities.

Tawau Town has more Rain Trees then Kuching City. Thanks to the British's horticulture efforts before they left Tawau after WWII. The British knows Tawau has batter volcanic soil then Kuching, they plant more of this trees here.

Albizia saman (Samanea saman)

 

A species of flowering tree in the pea family, Fabaceae, that is native to the Neotropics. Its range extends from Mexico south to Peru and Brazil, but it has been widely introduced to South and Southeast Asia, as well as the Pacific Islands, including Hawaii.
