Also known as noni, Indian mulberry, and a variety of other names in various
regions, is a small evergreen tree or shrub that originated from Indonesia and
spread to the Pacific Basin, Philippines, Japan, China, and Australia.
Morinda citrifolia, Rubiaceae, noni, Indian mulberry. Small tree or shrub of
Polynesian introduction to Hawaii, originally from SE Asia to Australia, now
naturalized in dry sites. The bark and roots yield red and yellow pigments,
respectively, used to dye tapa or kapa. The fruits were used as an insecticide,
as a poultice, and in a medicinal drink. Location: Near kiosk, makai-Ewa of
Sinclair Library.

Native to Arizona, New Mexico, and northern Mexico.
The leaves are grey green and have a spine at the tip. One of the distinguishing
features is that the point on the tip, which is typically dark tan, brown, or
black, is darker than the leaf. Indentations of previous leaves show on the back
of each leaf. The Huachuca variety grows in a rosette pattern as large as 2˝
feet in diameter.
Aged agave produce a twelve-foot stalk with bright yellow blooms. They then die
after blooming, as all leaf and root resources are put into the stalk, flowers,
and seeds. It can be propagated by either offset or seed.
