Sapangar Bay Container Port

Sapangar Bay Container Port in Kota Kinabalu has two units of Panamax-size ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes bought from Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Co Ltd (ZPMC) at a cost of RM43 million

The 2 new gantry cranes are commissioned in March 2011.

The new cranes will further enhance the shipside container handling productivity and efficiency of SBCP Sapangar Bay Container Port.

Equipped with a handling capacity of 40 tonnes and boom outreach of 38 metres each, the new cranes are used for loading and unloading of containers in addition to the existing three units of mobile harbour cranes currently available at the SPCB.

The Sapangar Bay Container Port is managed by Sabah Port Sdn Bhd (SPSB), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suria Capital Holdings Bhd.

The commissioning of the new STS gantry cranes will  attract more MLO container vessels to call at the port, and boost direct connectivity between SBCP and BIMP-EAGA as well as foreign ports.

This will result in the local container importers and exporters having the option of receiving and sending their containers directly, thus avoiding transshipment at other Malaysian ports.
