For almost 60 years, BNBCC has managed to exploit the North Borneo economies
through their coercive economic policies in the said areas. Nevertheless, the
BNBCC ,,'as aware that the role of foreign capital and investor were also vital
in further fostering the economic development of North Borneo. Japanese investor
or popularly known as Zaibatsu, were among the foreign capital that involved in
developing the North Borneo economic development during the BNBCC administration
period. Among their [read Japanese] main economic investments "'were in the
sectors of rubber plantations, coconuts. manila hemp, and paddy field. The
active involvement of Japanese capital investment ill North Borneo has given
birth to the establishment of KTRE. Zaitbatsu Nissan Were the main share holder
of KTRE management and has emerged has the biggest investor in Tawau District of
North Borneo. especially in agriculture sector. Apart from that, KTRE were also
played a major role in developing the public facilities of Tawau District.
