The airport building is a modern single storey structure, with both arrival and departure halls located on the ground floor.
The airport is an important hub for the
state, connecting a number of towns in its area of service. The present airport
began operation in June 1994, after the old airport was demolished as Sibu
developed.
The airport offers daily flights from two arlines, namely Air Asia, and MASwings.
AirAsia offers flights to three destinations, Kuching, Johor Bahru, and Kuala
Lumpur via KLIA. MASwings offers flights to Kuala Lumpur via KLIA, in addition
to Kuching, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Limbang and Miri. The airport does not offer
any international flights at the present time.
The airport's normal operating hours are between 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. In
event of flight delays, the airport will remain open until the flight has taken
off, or has been cancelled.
The airport is located 25 kilometres south east of Sibu, having been relocated
in 1994. Coupon taxis are available at the airport and the average fare between
Sibu and the airport is around RM25. There is no public bus service that
includes the airport as a stop on its route.
