There is always a need to balance development with environmental protection. Sabah government develops Sabah under the Sabah Maju Jaya initiatives while SEPA acts as a partner and a watchdog.
The present Major projects, such as sand mining in Kudat and the Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED), require close monitoring of watchdog.
The infamous Mamut copper mine incident should not repeat. After the Mamut project is abandoned, water has filled the mine site and it is toxic to consume due to high acidic content. The surrounding villagers are affected.
