Comparision between this female Gea spinipes with a female ?
Both are common
spiders in Borneo Island
The genus Gea (family
Araneidae) is closely related to Argiope (often called St Andrew's
Cross).
Gea Females can reach
up to 11mm while Argiope Females can reach 26mm
Both are easy to
spot and photographed.
When disturbed, Gea
often drop to the ground less then one meter below and remain still
till the danger is over. It return to its web in speed via its own
fastened silk |
