A Guide to Common Spiders in BORNEO ISLAND. Started in 2004 this guide includes general information on 300 over species of spiders that inhabit Borneo Island, accompanied by photographs taken of them. This guide covers only a small percentage of the species commonly seen on the island, most of which are on the larger end of the scale.

SPIDER CLASSIFICATION

About 35,000 spider species are recognized today. These are sorted into about 100 families in 3 suborders.

To identify spiders often one need to examine obscure features of their anatomy --
1) Their mouthparts
2) Spinnerets (silk-producing parts)
3) Leg structure.

SPIDERS THAT WEAVE WEBS Spiny-backed orb-weavers with prominent spines on abdomen. They are in the Family of  Araneidae.   Spiders that web a flat sheet hangs under web. There are two families: 1- Family Linyphiidae 2- Family Nephilidae
