Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak
|Halal Management diploma programme
Biggest programme in Malaysia
Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak is poised to run the biggest programme among its counterparts nationwide, following the introduction of various diploma and degree courses within the next two years.
UiTM Sarawak Samarahan campus will launch its highly anticipated Halal Management diploma programme this October, 2013 with 30 pilot students.
In 2014, the campus will see the introduction of degree programmes in Architecture, Quantity Surveying and International Business Studies among others.
In 2015, the university will introduce its diploma in Interior Design programme including diploma courses in Herbal Production and Aquaculture Management available at its Mukah campus.
UiTM Sarawak is the first (UiTM) in Malaysia to provide the Halal Management course at diploma level. This course, including a degree programme that follow suit, are among programmes tailor-made for the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and the halal hub at Tanjung Manis.
UiTM is preparing to produce graduates for SCORE as growing demand for skilled manpower in Sarawak
In 2011, UiTM Sarawak stated its intention to introduce up to 200 new programmes, replacing or refining outdated ones. The university has campus autonomy – meaning it could decide on programmes needed by the state without having to get the approval of the federal government.
Islamic regulation body, Jakim’s (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia) require companies manufacturing halal products in Sarawak to employ at least one executive with halal expertise. UiTM’s programme would produce such executives to aid the development of the halal hub.
Manufacturers in the halal industry need certification for their products before they could enter the global market.
There will be future strong demands for halal executives, not only for manufacturers of halal products but other industries. Foreign investors will also be acquiring halal executives here if they want to invest in the halal industry of Malaysia.
Although the course is available at the certificate level in other organisations, it is not as comprehensive. UiTM’s course is more towards producing people knowledgeable about the scientific side of halal and purity.
