Macrogomphus quadratus synthorax is
robust though the abdomen rather thin.
This female’s Macrogomphus quadratus synthorax is as robust as a male’s

The eyes are well separated, a feature
which distinguishes them from all other Anisoptera species.

The ovipositor of this female
Macrogomphus quadratus is very different from other familiar
dragonflies. Segment 2 is extraordinary long.
The females lay their eggs alone, with a few quick passes over the weedy
mud banks in shallow water.
10 meters from where I found this female is a small river with mud banks
eroded by recent monsoon flood.
