Encounter the aviary wild life experience at Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. A short distance walk from the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Farm, you will come across the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park which houses more than 50 species of exotic birds flying freely in the enclosed paradise. If you are a nature lover it would be an experience to be able to feel and see these colorful birds living in its natural habitats, flying around freely within the beautifully landscaped cavern. Among the species variety are Hornbill, Hawk, Eagles, Vultures, Peacocks and some 50 other more species that can also be found within its vicinity. One of the largest bird parks in the region, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park houses over 5,000 birds, with 90% local and 10% imported from overseas. The park spans 2-8 hectares of free flight aviary and 5 hectares devoted specifically to the birds in this park.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is  one of the best things in the city with some of the world's most exotic bird species... This beautifully landscaped area was designed to bear a close likeness to nature with trees, flowering shrubs and miniature waterfalls. The park is situated in the vast green belt which surrounds central Kuala Lumpur near the Butterfly Park.  It is open daily from 9am to 6.30pm.

Spanning an area of 20 hectares, over 5,000 birds from over 200 species roam the park. The birds are 90% local and 10% imported from overseas. Most are free-flying in the covered park, which is shaped like one huge aviary. Visitors can walk on the tiled paths and gaze at birds in their element; storks and flamingoes frolicking in the water, finches and thrush chirping among the trees and owls roosting in barns.

There are several stall selling drink and snack but  I felt liketo have a proper meal. The only restaurent we could find is Hornbill Restoran about a hundred meters from the entrance.  Xing ordered  Chicken Nuggets and I had a Nasi Goreng.  Togather with drinks the meal cost Rm. 31.74 for two.

Bird lovers can have a field day watching more than 3000 birds perching and winging about freely-in a totally natural enviroment.

Next visit must remember to bring our  binoculars for bird watching.

Indian Blue Peacocks

Zone 1 - Indian Blue Peacocks

Indian Blue Peacocks roam freely around the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park. Spectacular peacocks.

We were welcome by a peacock in full courtship display. Very dazzling magnificent, colorful display and with persistent mating calls. The striking blue under the sunlight is
magnificent.

Bird Show at Amphitheater

Zone 4 - The Amphitheater

Bird Show at Amphitheater

This semi-open air Amphitheater located in Zone 4 at one end of the park.

The main event highlight of the day is  the  "KL Bird Park Bird Show"  at 12.30pm and 3.30pm daily. The daily Bird Show is free-of-charge.

We were in time for the 3:30PM show and privileges to be among the only 6 audients for a bird shown in a world largest bird park. The parrots can count in simple arithmetic, ride a skateboard or mini bicycle, and complete other puzzles.

Photo above : Only a total of 6 audient for the bird show with two of us not in photo.

Hardly any Malaysian visitors to the park when we visit the park on 23 November 2006. The Amphitheater has a 350 seating capacity and with a first-come-first-serve seating arrangement.

Zone 4 - The Milky Way in Waterfall Aviary

Location of Milky Stork Feeding at 4:00PM Daily

Milky Stork Feeding at Milky Way 16.00 daily

Zone 4 - Milky Stork Feeding at Milky Way 16.00  daily

We happen to be in the 4:00PM feeding time  to see the feeding of Milky Stork in this Waterfall Aviary.

The walkway is called "Milky Way " after the birds Milky Storks. Beside the Milky Way is the Mini Waterfall.

Zone 4  - Waterfall Aviary 瀑布觀鳥園

After Amphitheater we walked to another mini aviary. We spend sometime stroll along the paths in this Waterfall Aviary.

Waterfall Aviary has two main structure : the Waterfall and Milky Way.

The 30-feet tall man-made waterfall is a picturesque set up.

The Milky Way is in front and across the Waterfall.

This mini aviary is the sanctuary of  Milky Storks, a protected bird species in Malaysia. The feeding ground is Milky Way, name  after "Milky" Storks.

Flamingo pond

Zone 1 - Flamingo pond

Greater and Lesser Flamingos  sun-bathing in this landscaped pond .

These gregarious wading birds originated from Africa is able to stand on one leg.

The characteristic pink coloration of their feathers is caused by their beta carotene-rich diet obtained from the pond they are living in.

At this Flamingo Pond also  majestic pelicans a splendid yet curious bird species with enormous bill and awkward heavy walk.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, the largest bird park in South-East Asia, holds thousands of birds representing nearly every major species of this part of the world. Open from 9am - 6pm daily except public holidays.

Bird-watching is common here where the flora and fauna is rich yet mysteriously hides the birds from the naked eye of the beholder. A simple pair of binoculars will enable you to catch sight of the species of your interest.

The Kuala Lumpur Bird Park has earned the reputation among those who are keen on the study of birds in their natural habitat. Some of them include research scientist who monitor bird nests for the study of behavioral patterns. On a warm sunny day, one can even hear the sound of bird chicks chirping away to get their parents attention or for more food in the nest.

Miniature lakes are frequently used by the Flamingo, Crane, Peking Duck and Swan species for food hunting or leisure. Around these lakes, are many huts designed for picnickers or lovebirds on the romantic pursuit.

There is also a special park intended for the free roaming habitat of the Hornbill species with a lake attached to the landscape. Since the Hornbill species is less mobile than other species, this location is perfect for them to maintain a permanent residence without intrusion from rival species.

A walk through the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park will certainly be a rewarding experience that you will find not only harmony but also the sound of symphony from the wing-spanned residents.

Many of the birds here we seen for the first time.  For the first time we saw so many species of bird :Hornbills, Flamingos, Parrots, Cockatoos, Storks, Pheasants, Mynahs Pigeons, Macaws,  Waterhens etc.

They were collected  from Australia, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Indonesia, Tanzania, China Holland, Africa, South America, South East Asia and several other countries.

Some  species of birds are confined in Display Aviaries.

We enjoy strolling through the  maze of paved walkways  in an environment  of greenery, fresh air  and whistles of birdsong.

At various points, you'll be delighted to come across miniature gardens, pools and water cascades, bridges, flowering plants, fruit trees...and bird - feeding stations.

Zone 4 - Photo Booth where you get opportunities to photograph yourself holding birds such as eagles and macaws. Rm 5.00 for using own camera.

I love best these two owls at the Photo Booth.  They are rear to see in the wild. These owls are beautiful, clean, cool with 2 big bright eyes. In story books they are the wise men. I chose one of the owl for my son to photograph with.

After staying one night in a traveller's inn with no not water, (The inn usually put the local Malaysian on the first floor with poor facilities such as non functioning water heater, yet charged the same rate), we moved to a near by Hotel, the Nan Yeang Hotel.  Rm55.00 per night. Though room is small with an old TV, but it has a functioning hot water shower.

The well known Petaling Street (Night Market) is 5 minutes walk away.

Nan Yeang Hotel is near to the Night Market famous for cheap foods at night.
