December 2009 One Borneo Shopping Mall
One Borneo Hypermall lit up the year-end festive season with a grand “Magical Christmas” display at its main atrium, featuring a towering Christmas tree, colourful toy soldiers, reindeer, oversized gifts and sparkling snowflake ornaments. The vibrant red-carpeted setting drew families and shoppers who gathered to take photographs and enjoy the cheerful holiday atmosphere. As one of Sabah’s newest and largest shopping malls at the time, One Borneo continued to establish itself as a key lifestyle and community destination, with its 2009 Christmas decorations becoming a highlight of the city’s seasonal celebrations.

Christmas 2009 at One Borneo Shopping Mall — Festive & Magical

The interior of 1Borneo Shopping Mall (One Borneo or 1 Borneo Hypermall) is transformed into a cheerful and vibrant Christmas scene.

The centre atrium is decorated with classic holiday visuals — a large, beautifully adorned Christmas tree towering over a bright red carpeted floor.

Around the tree and stage area are giant toy soldiers, festive presents, oversized candy canes, reindeer figures, and garlands that evoke a classic winter wonderland atmosphere.

Colorful holiday lights, giant snowflake ornaments, and whimsical figures like teddy bears and carousel-style decorations help create a family-friendly backdrop perfect for photos and celebrations.
Families and visitors stroll, take pictures, and enjoy the festive mood that fills the mall’s main space.
This is a traditional festive theme of joyous, colorful, and designed to attract shoppers and families during the year-end holiday period.

At that time, 1Borneo was still quite new — having opened in 2008 as one of East Malaysia’s largest malls, making it a major destination for shopping and leisure in Sabah.

By 2009, One Borneo (1Borneo Hypermall) had quickly become a focal point for shopping, entertainment, and community activities in Kota Kinabalu. It was known for its huge retail space and variety of attractions, drawing both locals and tourists.

The mall’s Christmas decorations in those early years were part of efforts to make it feel like a central hub for festivities and year-end celebrations in Sabah.
