According to Dr Jeffrey, the Barisan Nasional (BN) has been in power for more than 50 years but all timber in Sabah are sold to overseas and that there are no furniture-making factories in the State.

"The Government about 20 years ago announced that Keningau will have a furniture-making factory but until now, it has not materialised," he said.

KENINGAU -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched the Keningau Integrated Livestock Centre (KILC), the first livestock centre on a large scale in the country.

1 / 1
Najib said the RM763 million, 2,084-acre project under the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) is part of the Sabah Interior Food Valley initiative.
He added that the KILC Nucleus Breeding Farm is expected to have 2,000 cows to produce six million litres of milk a year to supply the whole country and for export to neighbouring countries including Brunei.
Brunei has a 40 percent equity through its RM120 million initial investment in the pioneer centre in Sook, Sabah about 50 kilometres from Keningau town, said Najib.
"We can be proud of this achievement (Brunei's investment) as we chose a Pensiangan district in the interior of Sook and not a location in Kuala Lumpur," he said at the KILC's ground breaking ceremony and gathering with the residents of Sook, here today.
Najib also witnessed the signing of the Heads of Agreement between Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority, represented by deputy chief minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Annam Corporation's representative, Brunei Investment Agency chief executive officer Hartini Abdullah.
He described the project as one of the successes in SDC's development and part of the strategy to transform the rural areas.
"What we've done and are doing will become a reality, not just an empty dream which we cannot achieve.
"Since a long time ago we have achieved successes upon successes but we should not be complacent as the rural development agenda would not be completed for the next few decades," he said.
Najib said the Barisan Nasional government would be able to implement its rural development agenda through the Government Transformation programme and Economic Transformation Programme in eight years to develop the nation's citizens.
Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said the nation's achievements are based on comprehensive and holistic planning and its ability to manage the economy well.
"We have a clear road map, and know all our people's hardships and needs because we have a sufficient data base," he said.
He cited Keningau dairy millionaire Datuk Yap Yun Fook as an example, who started with only two cows and RM1,000 in the 80s and now has a 110 hectare high-tech farm placing him as the largest breeder and dairy farmer in the country, and urged the audience to emulate him.
Also present at the event were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Brunei Education Minister Datuk Seri Awang Abu Bakar, and Natural Resources and Environment Deputy Minister Tan Sri Joseph Kurup. - BERNAMA
