Incorporating various faiths and cultures into one single entity.

The centre’s aim to welcome all visitors regardless of their religious faiths.

To portray a multi-cultural approach that evokes the notion of universality in Islam and so does not incorporate Malay (or even Arabic) influenced design.

Thus, the design includes

1) Iban-motif carvings,
2) Bidayuh-style Baruk (head house),
3) Melanau and Orang Ulu-influenced columns and
4) the “majestic palace” multi-tier roof system from ancient Chinese dynasties.

This RM11.5million Information Centre in Kuching was opened on 17th August 2008.

A unique Islamic Centre with a multicultural theme which represents Sarawak's various ethnic backgrounds.

Its architectural designs is based on the universality of Islam  combined Malay, Chinese, Iban and Bidayuh architecture as well as Orang Ulu designs

The centre has a

1) lecture hall,
2) classrooms,
3) hostels and
4) a gallery.

The Center was fully funded by Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.

Sarawak Islamic Information Centre is situated at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee and welcomes people from all faiths to foster better understanding and appreciation of each other’s beliefs.

The centre’s architecture depicts a combination of the various ethnic identities with ethnic designs and matrices – underlying a bedrock of the true Islamic universality, with no distinction between racial and cultural differences and parochial sentiments

The construction of the centre had taken two and a half years to complete.

The SIIC is set to be an information hub for those who want to find out about Islam regardless of their race and religion.
