Senai International Airport Proposed Renovation & Extension
Project in 2008
On 26 May 2008, SATS announced a MYR 70 million plan to build an Aero Mall, a stand-alone and external airport mall. Of the mall’s total space of 9,290.304 sq m 100,000 sq ft), 3716.121 sq m (40,000 sq ft) is retail space and the balance the concourse中央大廳.
Aero Mall’s target markets were the business community, employees in the nearby industrial estates and the population in the Senai-Kulai area.
The new mall, an extension of the airports present retail segment, would offer air and non-air passengers more choices to shop and dine, adding that the airport received overwhelming response when it introduced mid-level lifestyle products between 4,000 and 5,000 air passengers currently used Senai airport, which provided an active market for the existing 25 retailers.
The Aero Mall was officially opened in July 2010.
Concurrently SATS would also be launching :
- Senai Free Zone (80.937ha)
- Senai Aviation Park (40.468ha).>
The Free Zone will house a mixture of SME operations, warehouses and logistics for parts and components that could be exported via air cargo at Senai Airport.
The Aviation Park focuses on maintenance and repair operations
for the maintenance of smaller aircraft engines and avionic products like radios
and meters
The aero mall is the first stand-alone external airport mall in Malaysia. The
RM70m mall offers 83,375ft² of retail space. Emerging as a new lifestyle hub in
the area, the aero mall provides a location for shopping, dining and
entertainment. The mall is currently under construction.
The aero mall is due for completion by December 2009 and will open for business
in 2010. It was designed by Hintan Architects, and constructed by Malaysia's
premier construction group, IJM Corporation Berhad.
The mall is a natural extension of Senai International Airport's current
services to better serve valued customers and business partners. With more than
45 major multinational manufacturers and almost 40,000 people working and living
within a 2km radius of the airport, the aero mall is set to serve as a focal
point for the rapidly expanding Senai commercial, industrial and residential
hub.
Aero Mall Project was a RM70mil investment by Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATS). Malaysia’s first stand-alone and external airport mall.
The mall has a total space of 9,290.304 sq m (100,000 sq ft), 3716.121 sq m

SATS general manager of finance is Chan Kwai Yew .
Shopping, dining and entertaining at airports is getting popular now as airports are no longer just for air travellers,” he told StarBiz recently.
The best example of such a concept was Terminal Three at Singapore’s Changi Airport which had successfully attracted non-air travellers and residents from nearby areas to shop and dine there.
Aero Mall’s target markets were the business community, employees in the nearby industrial estates and the population in the Senai-Kulai area.
The mall is connected to the present airport terminal building and constructed on the existing open air parking area. A new basement parking area is built underneath the mall.
Among the mall’s outlets were Secret Recipe, Kyros Kebab, Chocz, SASA Hong Kong International, MPH Bookstore, KFC, Laksa Shack, Starbucks, Nationwide and FedEx.
