| Memory from FY Wong 9 July 2012 "Tonight, Christmas father will come...and give Christmas gifts to the children......." Aunty Nyuk Lan said to me while preparing meal for the family. "How does Christmas father comes into the house ?......" I asked. "Climb through the chimney....." Aunty Nyuk Lan answered. There was no chimney on the roof, no house ever has one in Malaysia. I looked up and scan the zinc roof of the kitchen (there was also no ceiling for wooden house in those days in Kuching)... But I knew Christmas Father some how could find a hole in the roof top to climb in during the night. ..... the next morning I found a Christmas Gift by my bed side. Wan Tet Fong, the cousin whom I share the big wooden bed with, he also has a gift too. Each children in the house has one. This was in 1960 or 1961 when I was a kid boarding temporary in her house for a year because my father (her brother) was transferred to work in Simanggang Town. I later learned whom that Christmas father was who placed gifts on the bed side while children were sound asleep. Aunty Wong Nyuk Lan RIP in April 2011, but she remains in our heart for ever like Christmas Father does. |

| 19 August 2007 School holidays started 19-8-2007 till
26-8-2007. I told my son that during this week he could forget his books
and biology and enjoy his video which restricted him from watching during
schooldays. He instead told me he has 2 school project to do
during this week long holiday. One is a geography project and the other a
history project. For the history project is non other then prepare the
FAMILY TREE......... and that he needed my help in providing him with
photographs. The eldest living member in the Wong family is Wong Nyuk Lan whom he met in November 2005 when she return from Perth to Kuching for a few weeks visit. This was her first time to see Mei Yin. She stared at Mei Yin then to Chun Xing to have a closer look and comparison this brother and sister. Then she turn to me and said with smile "..........You must thank God the Father ........for blessing you with 2 good children.......................Children are gift from God...................." That remarks brought my memory back to 1960/1961 when I stayed in her house for one year. In around 1960/1961 my father Wong Syak Kee transferred to work in Treasure Department of Simanggang. He was a clerk then I was already admitted in Primary 1 in Saint Paul Chinese Primary School. So as not to interrupt my study, the family decided to leave me behind with Aunty Nyuk Lan and pick me up later when they found a school for me in Simanggang. This 1 year of staying with the family of Uncle Wan Tau Kon and Aunty Wong Nyuk Lan has a very important to my life. Aunty Nyuk Lan took care of me like a mother. Uncle Wan Tau Kon family is a devoted Christian family with 5 Children ( 3 boys and 2 girls) all elder then me. Wan Teck Fong, the youngest son was 5 years older then me. Although Uncle Wan had to dedicate time and energy to his family, his profession as a Government servant and participation in social life, he never failed to cultivate his spiritual God through the daily bible study and prayers. Each morning I work up to see him sit at the corner of the wide veranda reading a few chapters of Bible and in deep prayer with God. Such is the husband of Aunty Wong Nyuk Lan. Aunty Nuyk Lan is a devoted Christian who’s godly spirit left a lastly impression on me. |
