Rice Dumpling of China
裹蒸Wrapped steaming is a specialty of Zhaoqing and an intangible cultural heritage of Zhaoqing.
Zongzi 粽子 is a food made during the Dragon Boat Festival to commemorate Qu
Yuan屈原, and 裹蒸steamed rice dumplings are a festive food for people in Zhaoqing
to celebrate the Spring Festival.
裹蒸Steamed Wrap - Almost everyone in Zhaoqing is familiar with this dish. With
its traditional wrapping method and unique flavor, it is famous in Guangdong,
Hong Kong, Macao and overseas, and is deeply loved by citizens and Chinese and
foreign tourists.
Before every Spring Festival, the scene of steaming and boiling parcels in front
of every household in Duanzhou still remains fresh in the memories of many
Zhaoqing residents. Steaming parcels during the Spring Festival is a unique
custom and culture in Zhaoqing. The wrapping and steaming craftsmanship has also
been included in the city's first batch of intangible cultural heritage
projects.
Leaves for wrapping: Ordinary rice dumplings are mostly wrapped with awn leaves,
in a twisted quadrangular or long strip shape, while Zhaoqing steamed rice
dumplings are wrapped with local winter leaves and water plants, which are in
the shape of a pyramid. Winter leaves are not only fragrant, but also fresh, and
have the effect of clearing away heat, detoxifying and reducing fire.
Fillings: Wrapped and steamed buns are a traditional folk food. In the past,
each family used their own secret recipe to prepare it, so there is a saying in
Zhaoqing that "the famous Wrapped and Steamed Wrapped Family has priceless
secret recipes." Wrapped steaming mainly uses glutinous rice, shelled mung beans
and pork as raw materials. Or it can be made with salted egg yolk, mushrooms,
chicken and duck meat, and an appropriate amount of five-spice powder.

The Hui people living in Zhaoqing also have the custom of wrapping and
steaming. They use beef as stuffing, which is called "halal wrapping and
steaming"; Buddhist Protestants use peanuts, ginkgo and mushrooms as fillings,
which is called "Shangsu vegetarian wrapping and steaming".

Star Lake in Zhaoqing
Star Lake is located 4 kilometers to the north of Zhaoqing in Guangdong
Province. The whole lake is divided by winding and interlaced dikes into five
small lakes, namely the East Lake, the Green Lotus Lake, the Middle Lake, the
Sea Wave Lake and the Inner Lake.
The Star Lake is famous for its enchanting and peculiar cliffs and caves. A
group of seven limestone peaks spread along the lakeside, looking like the Big
Dipper, hence the name of Seven Star Crags. The sight of Treasures in Stone
Chamber is in the Stone Chamber Cave, the earliest one opened to tourists. The
cave is 2 meters high at the entrance and over 30 meters high inside, with the
Water Cave as its main sight. Visitors can tour in the cave by boat. There are
more than 20 stone scenes inside the cave, and over 270 pieces of carved
pictures.
