The mini zoo of SRJK Yuk Chin, Tawau that was set up for wildlife awareness education in 1994 was shut down on 2015-09-17 Thursday after the animals were reported by a UK NGO that the animals were kept in squalid conditions.
Some 50 animals and birds were rescued from the mini school zoo and relocated. Those fit animals could be released back to the wild.
Among the animals confiscated included :
- estuarine crocodiles
- wild boars
- Long tail Macaques

Sabah Wildlife Department was co founder of this zoo in 1994.
Tawau Wildlife Department closed the zoo down in 2015 as instructed by their
director.
On 15th Sept. 2015 A report
"Zoo from Hell" was published by UK's MailOnline.
On 17th Sept. 2015 This "Zoo from Hell" was
closed down by Malaysian authority.
The speed in taking action is amazingly fast within only 2 days by authority

ZOO MINI SRJK(C) YUK CHIN BEFORE IT WAS CLOSED DOWN BY SABAH WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT IN 2015
In Tawau Mini Zoo were around 20 species of birds and 30 species of animals. Interesting and exotic animals like Wreathed Hornbill, Reticulate Phyton, and Wandering Whistling-Duck, but also animals like horse, monkeys and crocodiles inhabit the park. A large part of the animals could be fed with feed purchased in the kiosk. Visitors could enjoy lunch by the tables and benches of the park, and a playground was available for the children. "With 275 named species so far recorded in Borneo, the island has one of the
richest and most exciting dragonfly faunas in the world. More than 40% of
species occur nowhere else, making it the most distinctive sub-region of
Sundaland." A Guide to the Dragonflies of Borneo by Albert G. Orr
Insects are diverse and dominant inhabitants of the tropical rainforests in Borneo Island. New species are discovered too often. Entomologists are still struggling to cope with the documentation of tropical insect diversity.
Most of the common dragonflies in Sabah are red coloured, especially from the family Libellulidae. Some red pecies are even confused as same species, for example the three species of Genus Neurothemis.
