Genus Oxyopes 貓蛛屬
We have in our image collection total 6 different species of Genus Oxyopes spiders. Out of which only 1 species is identified as Oxyopes lineatipes. The other unidentified 5 species are given temporary names until they are identified.
Out of 6 species of Male only 2 species are found. The remaining 4 males are unfound and unknown yet.

Like jumping spiders, they do not weave webs to trap insects.
They hunt actively during the day in the grass or low bushes and shrubs.
Lynx Spiders can be found on trees or grasses, usually on the top of the plants. They are active in day time hunting small insects. They have a long body and long thin legs with long spines.

Male Pedipalps


This is a male with 2 large pedipalps.
The male has larger pedipalps, which are used for transferring sperm during mating.

Distinguishing feature of lynx spiders are long legs with thin, sharp spines.

Hunt like a cat


They hunt in the ways like a cat in slowly approach the prey and suddenly jump to it. Hence the spiders have their name Lynx.
Striped abdomens and spiky legs.
They are active in day time hunting insects size as big as them.

Parental Care


Lynx Spiders show parental care in guarding their eggs
This is common in the spider world.
Lynx Spiders do not build web nor retreat but make egg sac on leaves.

 

Eyes Arrangement

Lynx Spiders have good vision although their eyes are relatively small.
They have eight eyes, in the pattern four rows of two.
