Genus Archibasis
Borneo has the following 4 species in this Genus Archibasis:
1- Archibasis incisura Lieftinck, 1949 Endemic of Borneo
2- Archibasis melanocyana (Selys, 1877)
3- Archibasis tenella Lieftinck, 1949
4- Archibasis viola Lieftinck, 1948
We have in our image record the species of Archibasis incisura (Endemic of Borneo) which we found in a monsoon drainage in Sri Aman Town of Sarawak
1- Archibasis incisura Lieftinck, 1949 Endemic of Borneo
All four Archibasis species are black with blue or violet markings in both sexes.
They may fly together with Pseudagrion microcephalum which they resemble superficially. However all species are distinctly larger than the blue Pseudagrion This difference is very obvious when they are seen flying together. Moreover in Archibasis species the blue marking on segment two of the abdomen is confined to a small dorsal spot; segments 3-7 are entirely black. Pseudagrion species have considerably more blue on the abdomen, particularly at the sides.
The commonest Archibasis species. Archibasis melanocyana occurs in small shaded rivulets in low country, including freshwater swamp and alluvial forest.
Archibasis viola can be recognized by its violet coloration which persists clearly even in preserved specimens. It occurs in similar situations to the previous species and is almost as common. A small bloodsucking midge is just visible (as a small brown dot), on the wing of the specimen
Archibasis incisura (north-west to south-west Borneo) and Archibasis tenella
(universal), are found locally in alluvial forest. They are not easy to
distinguish from Archibasis melanoeyana except by close examination of the male
anal appendages.

Dragonflies of Borneo
"With 275 named species so far recorded in Borneo, the island has one of the
richest and most exciting dragonfly faunas in the world. More than 40% of
species occur nowhere else, making it the most distinctive sub-region of
Sundaland." A Guide to the Dragonflies of Borneo by Albert G. Orr

GO FURTHER FLORA Borneo has 150 species of wild fig trees. Most of them are found in forests of Sabah. FISHERIES Prawn farming is a main commercial activities in Tawau. Spawners from Tawau are graded the best in Malaysia. For decades, Tawau has been exporting high-grade tiger prawns to several countries such as Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Egypt and Australia.
