University of Putra, Malaysia (Universiti Putra Malaysia - UPM), is a public university located in Peninsular Malaysia. Universiti Putra Malaysia is recognized as one of the premier research universities in Malaysia. It was ranked among the best universities by The Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) annually.
It was formerly known as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (Agricultural University of Malaysia)
UPM was founded in 1971 through the merger of the Agriculture Faculty of University of Malaya and Agriculture College, Selangor.

UPM maintains its traditional educational role by focussing its tertiary level research on agriculture and related areas such as Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering, Business Studies and Accountancy.
In June 1996, Universiti Putra Malaysia decided to create a branch campus at Mengabang Telipot, following the relocation of the Faculty of Fishery and Marine Science from Serdang to Mengabang Telipot. The branch campus was named Universiti Putra Malaysia Terengganu (UPMT).
On 5 May 1999, UPMT became Kolej Universiti Terengganu (KUT). On 20th June 2001, KUT officially became the 14th public institution of higher learning in Malaysia, and was subsequently renamed as Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM).
