This is the only species in Borneo in the Genus Onychargia
Found in Asia: Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka,
Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Peninsular Malaysia, Thailand, Viet Nam
An immature male Onychargia atrocyana
An immature male Onychargia atrocyana perching on a sun lighted tip of a leave
just couple of feet above a grassy drain.
This species is rarely seen in Sabah.
Secondary genitalia of above matured male Onychargia atrocyana (Selys, 1865).
Onychargia atrocyana is one of the most hairy damselfly in Sabah. Here you can
see long hairs on segment 2. Usually damselflies have only short fur on
abdomens.
Onychargia atrocyana is hairy not only on upper and lower thorax, long soft
hairs also cover the face and head. Most other damselflies have only short fur.
The Matured male Onychargia atrocyana is pure black with metallic deep blue on the upper part of
thorax. Abdomen fine and thin but the throex is robust build.
