Fresh water ditch

Photo above : Ditch with rich vegetation and dragonflies. This is a narrow channel dug and used for drainage alongside Jalan Paya Road of Sri Aman Town. Habitat of world smallest dragonfly Nannophya pygmaea 17.5mm

Location : Jalan Paya, Sri Aman Town, Sarawak 2013-02-08 FRI 11:36
The tropical climate of Sri Aman has significant rainfall throughout the year in Sri Aman. Usually it rain in late afternoon. Even the driest month still has a lot of rainfall. In a year, the average rainfall is 3000 mm. over.
Rain constantly supplied fresh water to low lying area such as this ditch beside the road able to acquire a rich growth of vegetation along the ditch borders.

Dragonflies and damselflies have large compound eyes that can see in all directions. When the compound eye is magnified several hundred times, each individual facet (ommatidium) is shown to be hexagonal in shape.

Female dragonflies have either one of the two method of depositing eggs from the abdomen:
1- using Ovipositor Structure
2- using Vulvar Lamina

Male do not have an ovipositor. Instead male dragonfly and damselfly have appendages.
