Key outcomes of the EPP

   
• Pond & sea cluster is stocked with fish by Dec 2012
• Achieve first cycle of production output on Dec 2013
• Construction of processing plant commence on March 2012
• Construction of pond to commence on June 2012
• Export of 1st container of fish by Dec 2013
 
   
 

What needs to be done?

 
  • Land allocation (TOL) to be issued by June 2012
• Fish to be stocked by Dec 2012
• Complete the acquisition of land for processing plant by March 2012
• EIA to be completed by May 2012 to enable pond construction to commence.
• Farm & processing plant to obtain SPLAM certification
 
 

Key Challenges

 
  • Basic infrastructures at the grow out farm – access road, electricity & piped water
• Shortage of skilled manpower and experts to work on hatchery, nursery & grow out farm
• Financial support from institutions
• Delay in delivery of quality fish fries from hatchery in Taiwan & Indonesia. The two countries are renowned to product top quality fish fries to support the aquaculture industry.
 
   

Mitigation Plan

    • Engage Land & Survey to enable road-reserve to be established as soon as possible.
• Engage contractors to build temporary access road to enable site construction to commence.
• Engage UMS and other training institute to facilitate the employment of local graduates
• Engage Agro Bank & SME Bank to facilitate syndicated loan assistance
• Booking of fish fries to take place upon 50% of construction status. Attempt to source from secondary market like Philippines & Australia.

• New market potential to Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan & Australia
 
Barramundi
• Traditionally consumed by consumers local and overseas • Can fetch up to RM20 / kilo
• Exported by Air Cargo to Australia, China, Singapore & Peninsular Malaysia
• New market potential to New Zealand & Middle East
• Strong demand from local O&G industry for offshore staff meals
